Most residents know that the Hoover economy historically has been heavily driven by consumption or, in other words, sales tax revenue. Pre-COVID-19, as a result of increasing internet commerce and a decrease in store-front shopping, we were already working to diversify the way the city collects tax revenue. This included efforts to make Hoover a tourist destination for entertainment and through attracting sports to venues like the Finley Center. Now, with the impact of COVID-19 on our local economy, I want to be as innovative as possible in coming alongside our local businesses not only to keep them open, but also to help them thrive again.
